As a great comic book enthusiast you are, you are always looking for new titles to read and collect on the shelves of your library. Recently, however, you have discovered that digital comics are available on the web and have tried to download some of them to your computer. Too bad that the files you obtained are in CBZ format and you have no idea how to open them. Is that so? Then let me tell you that you have come to the right place at the right time!
With today’s guide, in fact, I will tell you how to open CBZ using programs to install on your computer, tablet, or smartphone or to browse online. Before proceeding, however, you must know that CBZ files are nothing more than ZIP archives of a series of images (usually in PNG or JPG format ), mainly used in digital comics. Programs to open CBZ files on PC
The best solution to open CBZ is to rely on the programs to install on your computer. This software is real comic readers that allow you to browse their books in CBZ format. Here are some that might be right for you.
YACReader (Windows/macOS/Linux)
YACReader is among the best programs to open files in CBZ format. It is available for free for Windows PCs, macOS, and Linux and supports all major digital comic formats, as well as offering many cool features, such as the ability to organize your library by tags and start reading in full screen.
To download YACReader, connected to the software website, click on the Downloads item in the top menu, and press the down arrow icon to start downloading YACReader.
Now, if you have a Windows PC, double-click the .exe file, press the Yes button and click the Next button, then place the check mark next to the item I accept the agreement, click the Next button four consecutive times, and press the Install button to install the program. Then conclude the procedure by pressing the Finish button.
If you use a Mac, on the other hand, open the dmg package you just downloaded and drag the YACReader icon into the macOS Applications folder, then right-click on the program icon and select the Open item from the menu that appears (operation required only for the first startup, to bypass macOS restrictions for programs that come from non-certified developers).
After starting the program, click on the letter O on your keyboard and select the CBZ file to import to YACReader. Alternatively, you can also open a digital comic by clicking on the speech bubble icon at the top left and selecting the file to open.
Simple Comic (macOS)
If you have a Mac, you can rely on the Simple Comic app to read files in CBZ format. It is a free application, easily downloadable from the Mac App Store. After starting it, from the menu bar at the top, select File> Open items and import the CBZ file you want to open on your Mac.
If you have followed these simple instructions to the letter, in the blink of an eye you will be shown your comic, ready to be read and browsed, using the commands (the arrow icons ) at the top or using the directional arrows on the keyboard.
Caliber (Windows/macOS/Linux)
Another popular software that you can use to open CBZ files is Caliber. It is a program for managing digital libraries which, in addition to this function, also allows you to read books (in this case comics) of the most common formats. After starting the software in question, press the Add books button, locate the CBR file and import it into the Caliber library. On the main screen, right-click on the name of the comic you just imported and select Read> Read with Caliber’s eBook reader.
At the end of the loading of the screen, using the directional arrows of the keyboard or those placed at the side margins, you can browse your comic.
